Experience the Rhine Bonn

Highlights of the Rhine River Cruise

A clear view of seventh heaven.

From Cologne to Bonn, Cruising Day, Strasbourg (Kehl), Basel, Breisach and Koblenz to Cologne.

The Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is so beautiful that cruise passengers want to spend as little time below deck as possible. But, with a glass of champagne in your hand, you can experience the valley in a completely different light: a sparkly and glamorous light. “Rhein in Flammen” is a visual spectacle, and it has been known to bring tears to eyes and to induce a rapt silence on the normally very cheerful decks of the Rhine ships. Especially when purple, gold and royal blue are reflected in the water against the backdrop of the former capital, Bonn. A fantastic prelude before you set off exploring other historical cities along the Rhine and fall in love with the unique landscapes.

Bonn, located at the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, used to be the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. As a seat of government, it is where many important policies were made. Make the most of the excursions on your Rhine cruise to experience the best of this 2,000-year-old city with a very eventful past. Highlights include the house where Beethoven was born and the magnificent buildings that date back to the prince-electors’ era.

During your cruising day, enjoy watching the scenery drift by as you look forward to the next towns and cities. Our tip: the SPA-ROSA is a great place to unwind and pamper yourself during your day on the river.

Today your Rhine river cruise will call at Strasbourg – a centre of European policymaking. With its medieval half-timbered houses and its elegant city palaces, Strasbourg really stands out from the crowd. But the highlight is the cathedral. From its viewing platform, the city’s half-timbered houses appear as small as pieces from a model railway set. Enjoy your day in the French part of the Rhine region!

Many people have only driven through or passed by the ‘Gateway to Switzerland’. Now, as your Rhine cruise takes you along the southern Rhine, you’ll get to know Basel much better. The city is home to Switzerland’s oldest university. Its other highlights include the medieval old town with its staircases and the Gate of Spalen – plus 27 museums.

The little town of Breisach perches on a steep cliff along the Rhine, to the south-west of the Kaiserstuhl hills. Its main landmark is the cathedral, Münster Sankt Stephan. Set high above the town on a hill (Latin name: Mons Brisiacus), the church overlooks the Rhine valley, housing an impressive collection of artworks. Geldermann, a well-known producer of sparkling wine, is also based here. A visit to Breisach is an absolute must during your Rhine cruise.

Your exciting Rhine cruise ends in Cologne, but your wonderful memories will last forever. Before you start your journey home, use the day to take a further look around North Rhine-Westphalia or explore the city. The magnificent cathedral of Cologne is an absolute must-see. See you soon and Ahoy!
