Routenkarte Rhein Panorama

We will set off on our exciting Rhine cruise from here, heading for the northern or the southern Rhine. But you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this cathedral city, with its wealth of monuments and attractions. The best way is to arrive the day before your cruise departs, so that you can relax – or simply extend your stay in Cologne after the cruise has ended.

The port city of Antwerp is an absolute must-see. Rich in art and culture, it is also known as the ‘Diamond City’ due to its important role in the diamond trade. Antwerp is particularly enjoyable for foodies, thanks to the many tasty Belgian specialities on offer there – including waffles, chocolates and chips.

Antwerp is not only known for being Europe's third-largest port. It is also the most important city in the world when it comes to diamonds – with most of the world’s diamonds traded here. A short bus tour takes you to beautiful Cathedral of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal), where you can also discover some masterpieces of Peter Paul Rubens. It is one of the highlights of Brabantine Gothic and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (please note, a visit inside the cathedral is not always possible). Afterwards, you will take a stroll through the historic centre with the Grote Markt and the lavishly decorated Renaissance town hall. A small tour then takes you to the Mas Museum where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and the harbour.

Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. Known as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’, it has a more urban, international atmosphere than anywhere else in the whole country. In recent years, Rotterdam has become a centre for architecture – its large architect-designed houses testament to the city’s modernity. With a little luck, you’ll see other cruise ships during your day in Rotterdam, since Europe’s largest maritime port is a major transport hub.

While it’s true that Rotterdam can look back on a long history, the city gives an outward impression of being refreshingly modern. Rotterdam is the Netherlands’ main centre of architecture – over the last 20 years an impressive collection of skyscrapers has transformed its skyline. The 46-metre-high Witte Huis was the first skyscraper in Europe, and there’s no denying that the city’s famous Cube Houses are unique too. Of course, during your visit you’ll also see the extraordinary market hall building, which is shaped like a giant aircraft hangar. The interior of the market hall boasts an 11,000-square-metre artwork made up of panels decorated with images of fruit and vegetables. Another thing that makes the building unique is that, as well as housing a market, shops, eateries and a car park, it also has residential units.

Edam is famous around the word for its cheese, but there’s more to see and experience here. You’ll go on a short walk to explore this small town, which is criss-crossed with many little canals, and take in several sights including the Cheese Market. Although there isn’t much cheese sold here nowadays, the old traditions are revived regularly and local cheese is transported to different sellers on sledges, just like in days gone by. You’ll have a little free time in the town centre before you continue on to Zaanse Schans. At this listed open-air museum you can go back in time and see what life was like in the Netherlands during the 17th and 18th centuries. Whether you take a guided tour or explore on your own, your route will take you past authentic houses, an historical shipyard, a pewter foundry, a dairy, an old-fashioned grocer’s shop and – above all – windmills.

During your cruising day, enjoy watching the scenery drift by as you look forward to the next towns and cities. Our tip: the SPA-ROSA is a great place to unwind and pamper yourself during your day on the river.

Discover Koblenz during your Rhine cruise. Its history dates back over 2,000 years, making it one of Germany’s oldest cities – and one of its most picturesque, with a wealth of sights and cultural attractions. Marvel at Koblenz’s palaces, stately homes, grand townhouses, narrow lanes and romantic corners. And watch as our A-ROSA ship sails close to the famous Deutsches Eck headland.

The breath-taking cable car ride across the Rhine and up to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress should not be missed: Behind you the roofs of Koblenz, below you the broad river and in front of you the gigantic fortress Ehrenbreitstein. This adjective is by no means an exaggeration, as you will be entering the second largest preserved fortress in Europe. Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III ordered the construction as part of an anti-French military line. Up to 6,500 craftsmen and day labourers were employed. The mighty fortress rises 118 metres above the Rhine and was once the core of the fortification around Koblenz. Together with the Deutsches Eck, it forms the northern gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Afterwards we will walk through the old town back to the ship.
