As early as 1303, the Nuremberg City Council decided in a purity law that only barley malt could be used for brewing beer. This decree marks the beginning of Nuremberg's beer history as we know it, which also played a role in the historic rock tunnels. Over the course of many centuries, the citizens of Nuremberg dug vaults and passages into the light-coloured red sandstone beneath their city to store and mature their beer. Discover the labyrinthine passages that even withstood the Second World War and thus provided shelter for many Nurembergers. On your way, you will also taste a beer that was matured here.

High above the old town at the confluence of the Main and Tauber rivers are the ruins of Wertheim Castle. Here you can see an impressive demonstration of how iron hammers are traditionally forged. The only iron hammer still in operation in the Spessart region has become part of industrial history. Afterwards, we'll drive to Homburg, 15 kilometres away, and visit another traditional craft there - a historic paper mill. Here, too, the building alone is impressive with its beautiful half-timbering.
