The Eiffel Tower, the way of life or the art? You could argue for hours about what it is that makes Paris so special. But one thing everyone agrees on is that Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And when seen from the water, it’s even more beautiful. The banks of the Seine, the river’s many bridges and all the little stories about them are incredibly romantic. The Seine seems to have adopted the Parisians’ laissez-faire attitude to life as it gently flows towards Normandy. The landscape here – which was named after the “men of the North”, the Vikings, who landed here around 1,200 years ago – is extremely pretty. Blossoming meadows and dense forests guide the river towards Rouen, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. The many artefacts documenting the 2,000-year history of this city are highly interesting. It’s easy to see why Normandy has been depicted in so many works of art. You too will reach for your camera more often than usual, regardless of whether you visit Claude Monet’s magical garden or the gorgeous Château Bizy, also known as “Little Versailles”. And everywhere you go, you’re tempted by culinary delights. In France, cheese is revered. Sample as much of it as you can, and find out why.

You quickly lose track of time in Normandy’s capital. But you’re reminded of it again by the 600-year-old ‘Big Clock’. This is one of the world’s oldest astronomical clocks and has just one hand – for the hour.

Le Havre

Arr 07:30 pm

On this Seine cruise, you’ll also discover Caudebec-en-Caux. This tranquil little town is located in the heart of Normandy, not far from Rouen. Make sure you pay a visit to the local church while you’re there – it’s especially worth seeing due to its beautiful architecture. This is a wonderful place to experience the typical French lifestyle first-hand while avoiding the hustle and bustle of the city.

Les Andelys

Arr 08:00 am Dep 12:00 pm

The pleasant, tranquil little town of Les Andelys occupies an idyllic spot surrounded by nature on the bank of the Seine. It is known for its castle, Château Gaillard. Although it is nothing more than a vast ruin nowadays, it’s easy to imagine Richard the Lionheart keeping watch here for the advance of the enemy – the French – through the Seine valley.

Vernon

Arr 02:30 pm

Today will probably be one of the highlights of your Seine cruise: you’ll have the opportunity to visit Claude Monet’s house and garden in Giverny. It is a magnet for art and culture lovers and those of a romantic inclination – and rightly so. The lush garden looks like a meadow of flowers straight out of an impressionist painting. The highlight is the enchanting lily pond, the subject of one of the world’s most valuable paintings. And you’ll be able to admire it up close – what a view!

Located just 50 kilometres from Paris, the city lies directly on the bank of the Seine. Now you’ll have the opportunity to discover it for yourself during your Seine river cruise.
