Northern Rhine New Year's Dream 2025

Highlights of the Rhine River Cruise New Year

Where's the best party in Amsterdam? Everywhere in Amsterdam.

From Cologne to Antwerp, Amsterdam (Lelystad*), Rotterdam and Nijmegen to Cologne.

How does a city that is constantly partying celebrate New Year? By taking the party to the next level. New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam is guaranteed to raise your spirits. Fireworks light up the sky and are reflected in the canals below. The colourful, narrow merchants’ houses, all of which seem to mock the invention of the spirit level, are irresistible, as are the Netherlands locals, who are always ready to party. But this cruise has even more to offer: Rubens fans will be in their element in the artist’s home town of Antwerp. Antwerp is also the home of the diamond trade. Indeed, diamonds provided the city with the wealth that keeps it looking magnificent. Rotterdam is another feast for the eyes. The city’s bold mixture of Europe’s largest port against the backdrop of avant-garde architecture will have you clicking your camera again and again. This is just how a new year should start: with a wealth of completely new experiences. Gelukkig nieuwjaar!

Amsterdam

Few European cities are as diverse as Amsterdam, with its multicultural charm, historic canal district and the highest concentration of museums in the world. Don’t miss the Rijksmuseum, which was restored to its former glory several years ago following a decade-long renovation project. Follow the locals’ example and explore by bike, or take a trip along the canals and discover Amsterdam from the water. Children of all ages will enjoy the NEMO Science Museum, where they can create bubbles big enough to stand in, make liquorice and learn why water is see-through.

Antwerp

When your Rhine cruise calls at Antwerp, you’ll quickly realise that this small Flemish port is no stranger to festive sparkle. In fact, sparkle was virtually invented there: this time-honoured commercial city is a major diamond centre, where precious stones are polished until they twinkle like stars. Antwerp itself is also a jewel – from the ship, you’ll have a wonderful view of its grand houses with their decorated stepped gables.

Rotterdam

Netherland`s second largest city. The home of the continent’s biggest sea port is a thriving metropolis that doesn’t scrimp on modern buildings or international flair. Over the past 20 years, a number of impressive new skyscrapers have sprung up – and there’s no sign of this trend stopping yet.

Itinerary

Welcome to Cologne! The grand Cologne Cathedral, one of Germany's most famous landmarks, thrones majestically over the city and draws everyone's attention with its impressive architecture and ornate details. Along the riverside promenade, cosy cafés, lively beer gardens and restaurants invite you to linger and enjoy, while the charming old town streets with their traditional houses, boutiques and breweries convey the flair of centuries past.

The port city of Antwerp is an absolute must-see. Rich in art and culture, it is also known as the ‘Diamond City’ due to its important role in the diamond trade. Antwerp is particularly enjoyable for foodies, thanks to the many tasty Belgian specialities on offer there – including waffles, chocolates and chips.

Trips

Antwerp is not only known for being Europe's third-largest port. It is also the most important city in the world when it comes to diamonds – with most of the world’s diamonds traded here. Our bus will pass the beautiful Cathedral of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal). It is one of the highlights of Brabantine Gothic and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards, you will take a stroll through the historic centre with the Grote Markt and the lavishly decorated Renaissance town hall. A small tour then takes you through Antwerp's diamond district.

Trips

Let the old year come to an end in Europe's exciting capital. It’s a place that immigrants from all corners of the earth have made their home, bringing elements of their own cultures with them. It’s also where modern architecture meets historical pomp and splendour. As well as seeing the city’s landmarks such as the Atomium and Manneken Pis, you’ll visit the Grand-Place. With its baroque guild houses and Gothic town hall, it is considered one of the most beautiful squares of its kind in the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And of course, Brussels is also known for its delicious chocolate. That's why our excursion also takes us to a chocolaterie that makes chocolate dreams come true.

Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. Known as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’, it has a more urban, international atmosphere than anywhere else in the whole country. In recent years, Rotterdam has become a centre for architecture – its large architect-designed houses testament to the city’s modernity. With a little luck, you’ll see other cruise ships during your day in Rotterdam, since Europe’s largest maritime port is a major transport hub.

Trips

While it’s true that Rotterdam can look back on a long history, the city gives an outward impression of being refreshingly modern. Rotterdam is the Netherlands’ main centre of architecture – over the last 20 years an impressive collection of skyscrapers has transformed its skyline. The 46-metre-high Witte Huis was the first skyscraper in Europe, and there’s no denying that the city’s famous Cube Houses are unique too. Of course, during your visit you’ll also see the extraordinary market hall building, which is shaped like a giant aircraft hangar. The interior of the market hall boasts an 11,000-square-metre artwork made up of panels decorated with images of fruit and vegetables. Another thing that makes the building unique is that, as well as housing a market, shops, eateries and a car park, it also has residential units.

The Romans astutely identified the ideal location along the Rhine River nearly 2,000 years ago, laying the foundation for the oldest city in the Netherlands. Today, this Hanseatic city captivates visitors with its rich historical sites and the vibrant energy brought by its thriving student population. Nijmegen's liveliness extends to its city beaches, where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of its unique surroundings.

Trips

The Hanseatic city of Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands. Its history goes back to Roman times. Later, the city repeatedly became the imperial residence (during the Carolingian period), as well as a part of the Hanseatic League. In 1678, the Treaty of Peace of Nijmegen between France and the Netherland was signed here. The central old town is especially worth a visit today. You will explore the old town during this guided city walk, where you will also see the St. Stevenskerk, the Belvedère, the Latijnse School and the Grote Markt.
