Sunshine, school holidays – and water fun for the whole family: on board A-ROSA SENA, little water lovers aged 4.5 and up can now can now learn to swim in a relaxed and cheerful holiday atmosphere. As the very first river cruise line to offer a professional children's swim school, where children can even get certificates1! We’ve brought the poolside lessons right on board – so your holiday becomes the perfect time to dive in.

No more rushing to swim class after school or trying to squeeze lessons into your busy schedule. On board our A-ROSA SENA, the swim coach comes to you – while you unwind with a book, a coffee or simply the view from the sun deck.

Whether your child is dipping their toes in for the very first time or already paddling around with some confidence, our carefully designed courses (in cooperation with the Wasserlust Swim School) provide a safe, supportive and fun learning environment. Beginners learn the basics step by step, while more experienced swimmers can refine their technique and build stamina – all under the guidance of trained professionals who know how to make swimming fun.

Important: Spaces are limited, so we recommend booking your child’s course before your cruise. Last-minute registrations on board are only possible if places are still available.

BEGINNER:

For children who are completely new to swimming.

  • Goal: Build water confidence and learn first swimming skills and techniques
  • In small groups
  • 6 swimming lessons per cruise
  • Duration of each lesson: 30 minutes
  • Takes place at the pool on the A-ROSA SENA sun deck
  • Lessons are taught by a qualified swimming instructor by the Wasserlust swimming school
  • At the end of the course, the children will receive a certificate of participation, but not an officially recognised swimming qualification

INTERMEDIATE:

For children who already feel confident in the water and know some basic swimming techniques.

  • Goal: Improving basic swimming skills and techniques, as well as endurance
  • In small groups
  • 6 swimming lessons per cruise
  • Duration of each lesson: 40 minutes
  • Takes place at the pool on the A-ROSA SENA sun deck
  • Lessons are taught by a qualified swimming instructor by the Wasserlust swimming school
  • Possibility of completing the course with an officially recognised swimming qualification1

ADVANCED:

For children who already have their first officially recognised swimming qualifications and would like to move on to the next higher level.

  • Goal: Improving swimming techniques and endurance, as well as knowing common water safety guidelines
  • In small groups
  • 6 swimming lessons per cruise
  • Duration of each swimming lesson: 40 minutes
  • The swimming lessons take place in the pool on the Sun Deck of A-ROSA SENA
  • Lessons are taught by qualified swimming instructors from the Wasserlust swimming school
  • Possibility of completing the course with an officially recognised swimming qualification1

1While the swimming qualification obtained upon completion of the course is officially recognized in Germany, it may not hold direct recognition in other countries. It's recommended to verify its equivalence or recognition with the relevant swimming authorities in the desired country.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • We recommend that you book the swim course in advance (You will be asked to confirm the level of your child’s swimming skills beforehand).
  • During the first lesson, the swimming instructor uses playful interaction to see if the children meet the requirements for the course.
  • Each participant must be in good physical health at the start of the course.
  • Participating children must not have any serious illnesses (e.g. organ damage, contagious diseases) that would prevent them from attending the course
  • In order for your child to take part in the swim course, you must first sign the consent, which include the terms and conditions. You can easily download the document online.
  • Your children may only join the course that is suitable for them. If they have no swimming experience, they can join the Beginner course. If they have some experience, they can join the Advanced course. If they already have their first officially recognised swimming qualification (equivalent to the German “Seepferdchen”), they can join the Advanced course.
  • When swimming lessons are held, we will close the pool to give your children space to practice.

TIP: Children aged 15 and under travel for free in a family cabin (when accompanied by two supervising adults, only applies to the cruise fare).

Frequently Asked Questions

Children aged 4.5 years and up can participate in our swimming school on board A‑ROSA SENA. This applies to both beginner and advanced courses. It is important that your child is physically healthy and ready to be in the water unaccompanied.

On board A-ROSA SENA, three different course levels are offered – each consisting of six sessions per cruise. All courses are led by a qualified swimming instructor, and take place in the pool on the sun deck, with small group sizes for individual attention.

BEGINNER
For children who have never attended a swimming course before.

  • Goal: To move confidently and without fear in the water and to learn the first basic swimming techniques 
  • Completion: Certificate of participation (not eligible for the Seepferdchen badge)

INTERMEDIATE
For children who already feel comfortable in the water and are familiar with basic swimming techniques.

  • Goal: To improve basic skills, stamina, and swimming techniques 
  • Completion: Possibility of taking the Seepferdchen badge test 

ADVANCED
For children who already have their first officially recognised swimming qualifications and would like to move on to the next higher level.

  • Goal: To further develop swimming technique and endurance, and to gain a solid understanding of water safety rules 
  • Completion: Possibility of taking the Bronze swimming badge test

Yes, swimming lessons take place on every day of the cruise, except on the day of arrival and departure. Each day, there is usually one course each for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels. The pool on board A-ROSA SENA is exclusively reserved for the swimming school for around two hours per day.

Times are coordinated with the itinerary. There is generally still plenty of time left for families to explore the cities along the route.

Courses are kept intentionally small, which ensures focused and individual attention for each child.

No. The beginner course is designed for children without prior skills. The intermediate and advanced course requires basic swimming ability, which is assessed during the initial orientation. session.

No – it’s a supplementary, bookable option. Prices are € 149 (2025 rate, € 179 in 2026), and include six lessons, professional guidance, and certification.
