Danube New Year's 2025

Fireworks over the nighttime skyline of Vienna with illuminated historic buildings and a dark sky.

Highlights of the Danube Cruise

End the old year as the new one begins: with new prospects.

From Passau to Wachau, Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Cruising Day to Passau.

Welcome the New Year in Budapest. Enjoy the fireworks from the ship, or mingle with the locals and experience the evening in the city centre.  Showers of stars, fountains of fire, golden tails and explosions of colour. Budapest with its beautiful baroque buildings, the picturesque old town with small boutiques and cafés and the Danube in the middle, which invites you to a relaxed after-work drink, is reminiscent of the Seine metropolis Paris. Except that here the plaster crumbles from time to time and the metro bumps - but that doesn't bother anyone. This cruise is more than just one big New Year’s party. On the beautiful blue Danube you’ll also be amazed by the wonderful Vienna, enjoy Bratislava’s vitality and mixture of styles and take a little bit of the three-four rhythm back home with you in your blood.

Bratislava

Slovakia’s capital is situated exactly at the point where the country meets Austria and Hungary. This makes it the only capital city in the world that borders more than one neighbouring country. Due to its location, Bratislava has been an ethnic melting pot since ancient times. This influence can be seen in every corner of the city.

Budapest

Once you've settled into Vienna for a few hours, you won't want to leave in a hurry. You want to visit the countless cafés, where the traditional Viennese coffee house culture is still lived today. And also the great history around the emperors, Sissi and the Habsburgs with their pompous lifestyle contributes to the fascination of this city. Or you can listen to the sounds of Viennese classical music. In addition, the Austrian capital can also inspire on a culinaric level: it is not for nothing that the famous Wiener Schnitzel and the Sachertorte could establish themselves almost everywhere in the world.

Passau is the departure point for your exciting Danube cruise. A university city, it combines old-town charm and ecclesiastical history with a young, modern vibe. As the ship departs, enjoy the thrill of heading off along the Danube for the first time – and look forward to your cruise, with its many experiences, picturesque natural scenery and magnificent towns and cities. Welcome aboard!

Wachau

You are about to enjoy a real treat for the senses as you experience the Wachau up close. You will be mesmerised by the famous Danube valley between Melk and Krems. Taking in this fascinating river landscape as you stand on the sun deck of one of the A-ROSA Danube fleet is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is no wonder that the Wachau is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This really is an absolute must-see.

A mystical river landscape in the Wachau with hills on the riverbank. At the foot of the hill lies a village and at the top stands a castle. The sun shines over the hills onto the river.

Vienna

Arr 02:00 pm

This is a real highlight of your Danube cruise: Vienna, the capital of Austria with that extra-special something. The locals sound as though they are singing when they speak, and it is customary for certain business owners to address their regular customers with their full title. That’s just the way things are done here. With its wealth of museums, galleries, palaces and castles, plus the state opera and many theatres, the city enjoys a lively cultural scene all year-round. The Viennese are proud of their city – and rightly so!

Trips

Follow in the footsteps of world-famous musicians and experience the unique atmosphere of the Vienna Central Cemetery. The Vienna Central Cemetery has many faces: On the one hand, it is the last resting place, not least of Ludwig van Beethoven or Udo Jürgens, and the most important cemetery of Vienna. On the other hand, it is an impressive park and recreation area as well as a place of contemplation. This diversity makes it a very special sight in the city.

Bratislava, home to approximately 450,000 inhabitants and located on the left bank of the Danube, is a young capital city – the youngest in Europe, in fact. Throughout the old town, you’ll see traces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire wherever you go. This leisurely city of baroque and rococo, palaces and palisades, and art and coffee houses is a perfect place to wander around, marvel at impressive sights, relax and unwind.

Trips

The Bratislava City Express is en route to the Bratislava Castle. From the 85-metre-high plateau, you can see far over the Danube. The city owes its name to Duke Wratislaw, who built the complex in the middle of the 17th century. Maria Theresia decided to reconstruct the castle a century later as you'll see on your visit today. After the castle, you will explore the historical centre with its Renaissance houses and baroque palaces by foot.

Do you know how many bridges Budapest has? There are seven in total – and they span the river between the neighbourhoods Buda and Pest. The most well known is probably the Széchenyi Chain Bridge. Take a look at Budapest’s imposing structures for yourself as you cruise down the Danube. And if you go out onto the sun deck of your A-ROSA ship, you’ll also have an unobstructed view of Budapest’s famous parliament building. The perfect way to experience a stunning city.
