Forchheim
Welcome to the gateway to the Franconian Switzerland! The charming town of Forchheim invites you to explore its winding streets in the run-up to Christmas. Characterised by half-timbered buildings and traditional taverns, the streets are adorned with festive decorations. The city has a long history stretching back 1,200 years, shaped by kings and an impressive fortress. As a traditional beer town with the world's highest density of beer cellars, three of the original 18 breweries still exist today. The 'Walk of Beer', which opened in 2018, takes visitors from the city centre to the Kellerwald, where beer was once stored and matured in 23 cellars. Today, this area is one of the world's largest beer gardens. From 27 November to 24 December 2026, the atmospheric Christmas market will take place around the Kaiserpfalz, bathing the old town in a magical winter atmosphere with lights, scents, and festive cheer.
