Muiderslot serves as a branch to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Learn about life in the castle in the Middle Ages and the 17th century and enjoy the beautiful castle gardens. Afterwards, you will continue your journey to Naarden, where you will visit the fortress museum after lunch. The centuries-old town of Naarden has many monuments to offer, the magnificently preserved fortress with a double city wall and moat, as well as bastions, city gates and armouries. Delve into the past at the Dutch Fortress Museum and wander through the history of the fortress.

Stroll beneath the trees, admire the diversity of the flora and fauna, dive into the ocean and travel to the stars: you can do all this and more at Amsterdam Royal Zoo. As well as being home to a great number of animals from around the world, the zoo also has an aquarium and a planetarium that you can visit. Edam is famous around the word for its cheese, but there’s more to see and experience here. You’ll go on a short walk to explore this small town, which is criss-crossed with many little canals, and take in several sights including the Cheese Market. Although there isn’t much cheese sold here nowadays, the old traditions are revived regularly and local cheese is transported to different sellers on sledges, just like in days gone by. You’ll have a little free time in the town centre before you continue on to Katwoude. Here, you’ll find a charming organic farm right next to the IJsselmeer dyke. The damp meadows of the polder landscape provide the perfect conditions for the cows that produce the all-important milk for the local cheese. You’ll learn how this cheese is made – and have the opportunity to taste a few different varieties.

Haarlem was once a very powerful, rich city and is even older than Amsterdam. Haarlem was mentioned in documents as early as the 10th century. Shipbuilding and beer brewing ensured prosperity, and in the Golden Age cloth weaving was added. You will discover the Grote Markt, where Haarlem's long history is as tangible as its liveliness, old rows of houses, the massive Gothic Grote Kerk, the Renaissance town hall and the "hofjes". Afterwards you have time for your own explorations: you could stroll for hours through the little streets... it is not for no reason considered the cosiest shopping place in Holland.

In the cheese dairy you will be told everything about the production of cheese and of course you will be allowed to taste a piece. In Edam, the cheese is world-famous, but the little village also has a lot to offer. During a short walk you can explore the village, which is also criss-crossed by small canals, and see the cheese market, among other things. However, hardly any cheese is sold here today. Nevertheless, the tradition is regularly revived, and the cheese is carried by cheese carriers to the various traders as in the old days.
